Protecting Your Floor With Bona Products -Bona Wood Care Products
The floor comes under a barrage of abuse on a daily basis. This causes it to gradually dull and lose its appeal. From the dirt that winds up on it, food spills that form smudges, fur and dander, soiling tracked into the building- the particles are gritty and wear down the surface as people walk on it. Foot traffic compounds this, especially with the pressure created by the shoes people use. For instance, a 125-pound lady in stilettos bears down a staggering 8000 pounds of pressure with each step. Rubber sneakers also create unsightly marks on the surface. During those winter months, the salt used on the sidewalks to prevent people from slipping and falling also gets brought onto the floor under the soles of their shoes. What of the heavy appliances set up on the surface? From refrigerators to shelves, these are notorious for forming gorges on the flooring. In addition, those instances where people drag furniture across the surface instead of lifting it, scratches can result. Do you have a pet? As cats and dogs run around the premises, their claws dig into the surface, which also causes scratches to form. Stains from drink spilled onto the floor, ink spots, vomit, pus, and urine stains- they all result in unsightly spots, ruining the blend of colours that you love your wood flooring for. Natural elements also factor in. Perhaps you`ve noticed a difference between the shade of the floor out in the open, and the sections which are under furniture. These are caused by sunlight, with the UV radiation affecting the colour of the wood due to its photosensitive nature, where some species like Brazilian Cherry or Tigerwood darken, while others like Maple, Hickory and Red Oak get bleached out and become lighter. The infrared radiation reacts with the finish, and an orange-yellow hue develops. The beauty fades over time, and your floor will need to be rejuvenated.
Breathing New Life Into Your Installation - Bona Wood Care Products
Bona wood care products such as its comprehensive range of oil treatments are used to restore the elegance to your installation, and protect your wood floor. Take Bona Craft Oil 2K for instance. It's a modified plant-based oil, that increases the wear resistance of the floor, and contains performance boosters that speed up the drying time. It`s especially ideal or dealing with troublesome wood species, the likes of Afzelia, Iroko, Cherry, Walnut, Jatoba, Smoked Oak plus Steamed Beech. You can opt to use it as a single treatment, or have it as a basecoat, serving as a colour foundation for lacquers that will be added. When refinishing your floor with it, first sand down the surface to the bare wood, using belt and edge sanders. Start with a coarse and medium grit, then fill in the gaps that may be on the floor using the Mix & Fill Plus, then proceed to apply a coat of the Craft Oil 2K. Apply it evenly until it`s saturated, then use cotton cloths to remove the surplus. Allow 8 hours dwell time for the oil to bond with the wood tissue and dry, then topcoat with Bona Traffic HD, Bona Traffic or Traffic Natural depending on the wear requirements of your residential or commercial establishment. After allowing this layer an additional 3- hours to dry, lightly sand the surface with a Scrad Pad, then add an extra coat of the finish product that you had selected for the topcoat. In case the establishment witnesses extreme traffic levels, you can add another layer of the topcoat.

There's also the Bona OIl System that uses 3 treatments for the flooring. Initially, the floor will first need to be sanded and the gaps repaired. Once ready, follow this approach:
1. For Pure Oil treatment, use a rubber blade, steel trowel or Bona Wool Pad to apply Bona Craft Oil onto the floor, and ensure that it's saturated. Next, massage the oil into the wood tissue using pads attached to Bona FlexiSand. The green pads are conventionally for neutral oils, and red pads for coloured oils. Thereafter, get your cotton cloths and remove the surplus oil. Allow the floor to dry, then use the WoolPad to dry-buff the surface.

2. When treating your floor with Bona Nordic Tone, first apply it onto the surface using an application sleeve, and leave it to dry for about 4-6 hours. Finely sand the surface using the FlexiSand system and Scrad Pad, and vacuum away any residue dust. Proceed to apply Bona Craft Oil- you can use a steel trowel, rubber blade or Wool Pad, and continue until saturation is reached. With the FlexiSand System and red pad, massage the oil into the wood, then use a cotton cloth to remove the surplus. Let the floor dry, then buff it with a Wool Pad to enhance the quality of the results.

3. The third alternative is to use Bona Rich Tone. The procedure is the same with the second approach, only that instead of using the Nordic Tone, Bona Rich Tone is applied. In addition, after the dry buffing in the end, a thin Bona Hard Wax Oil coat is added, and 8-10 hours drying time allowed.

Speaking of Bona Hard Wax Oil, it can be used directly on the wood floor. As always, first carry out the sanding to get rid of the existing coats and finishes on the surface, and use the Mix & Fill Plus to fill any scratches and cavities that may exist on the floor. Once it`s ready, apply a thin coat of the oil onto the wood using a Velour Roller, and then give it a 6-8 hour drying time. Thereafter, use a Scrub Pad to abrade the surface, then add an extra layer to the Hard Wax Oil. This final top coat should be very thin.
