Depending on the type of sanding you plan to do, you always have to go down on grit. If the floor is very uneven and if there are many coats of sealant on it, you should start with 24 grit. This is very aggressive sanding. After the floor looks sealant free and even, you have to start re-sanding the floor again with 40 grit. The next step is 60 grit. Then 80 grit. After the 80 grit you are ready to seal the floor. The 100 & 120 grit are sanding discs that are usually used between coatings. Never skip from 24 to 80 grit. The scratches generated by the 24 will still be visible after using fine sandpaper.
