Using The Faber AT Lux To Stain-Proof Your Surfaces
Different techniques are used when enhancing the aesthetics of natural stone surfaces, to bring about the desired effect in the interior space. These affect factors such as the colouration and texture. For instance, there are those who want to achieve an antique look, where acidic substances are used to distress the surface, which is then followed through with mechanical wire brushing in order to restore its colour and also smoothen the texture. The brushed stone finishes are achieved by using steel or hard nylon for mechanical brushing, and water is used for the process. High impact machines can also be used to bring about a brush hammered finish, in order to give the stone a uniformly pitted surface. There are those surfaces that are finely sanded- it all depends on the home or business owner's particular needs. However, one thing is common: proper maintenance needs to be put in place to protect the structure. The surfaces come under loads of abuse daily, from the dirt and grime, to aspects like foot traffic and the occasional spills that can cause extensive staining. You don't want your installation getting dilapidated, especially since it was pricy to set up, and is core to the ambience of your living or working space. Keep it in top condition using the Faber AT Lux.
Protects your surfaces and enhances their beauty
With the Faber AT Lux, you get to accentuate the indoor surfaces of the establishment. Treating the floors, walls and even countertops with this formulation gives them a satin finish. This is as a result of the microcrystals in its composition which are both kinds: natural and synthetic. They have been specially developed to enhance the shine and add more depth to the tone of the material being worked on. The Faber AT Lux is popularly used for natural stone surfaces that are distressed, or brushed, plus those that have a fine sanded finish. You can also use it on cementina installations, and the cement agglomerates to achieve the effect. Be it basaltina-lava stone, granite, travertine, quartzite, sandstone or slate, the Faber AT Lux will be up to the task. The treatment doesn't yellow with time, meaning that the enhanced aesthetic attributes remain prominent for longer.
The Faber AT Lux liquid wax also comes with protective elements. Here, it forms a barrier that increases the surface's durability against foot traffic, and also prevents dirt and grime from adhering to the underlying surface. What's more, the formulation is oil-repellent and water-repellent, thus enabling you to stain-proof the surface against the accidental spills that would have otherwise ended up causing permanent and unsightly stains. The protective nature of the Faber AT Lux reduces the amount of work that is needed during the routine cleaning and maintenance operations of the surface, saving your time and energy in the process. Each unit of the Faber AT Lux takes you a long way, given that a litre of product can be used on 25 to 35 m² of surface. The formulation is available in 1L bottles (which come 12 units per box), or you can purchase the 5L cans, where a box contains 4 of the cans.
Applying The Faber AT Lux
Before you begin the process, the surface first needs to be cleaned. The dirt and grime that is on it, from the dust particles to the grease that is on the area to be worked on, should first be got rid of. This is as they will interfere with the bonding process of the Faber AT Lux. Allow the surface to dry before application. Remember to protect those adjacent sections which are not to be worked on, by simply covering them. Once ready, proceed with these steps:
  1. Apply the Faber AT Lux evenly onto the surface. Different tools can be used based on the particular situation. Popular options include brushes, rollers and lambswool applicators. You can even use a cloth. Apply it abundantly onto the surface, ensuring that the whole area has been covered.

  2. Give it 5 to 10 minutes of dwelling time.

  3. Redistribute the excess product, evening it out to have a homogenous result. Cloths and white pads come in handy when working on the smaller areas, while for the larger sections you can use a mechanical polisher that has a white pad. In case you're treating a highly absorbent surface, this step may not be required.

  4. Allow about 30 to 60 minutes, or however fast the product takes to dry, then begin polishing the surface. For the small areas, you can do this manually, using a white or wire wool pad. There are also those who choose to work with wool-cotton cloths. For the larger areas, the traditional mechanical polisher with an rpm set at 150-500 can be employed. Alternatively, you can choose to work with the high-speed mechanical polishers where the rpm clocks as high as 1500, or use an orbital polisher, onto which you have attached a lambskin or white pad, or wire wool. Polish the surface until the excess product has been removed and you have obtained an even, polished result.

Once you're done, clean the tools used for the task with white spirit.
Opening up the area to foot traffic
While the product will have dried within 1 or 2 hours after application, it's still recommended that you wait for 4-6 hours before opening up the floor to foot traffic.
Tips To Get The Most Out Of The Faber AT Lux
  • When uncertain of the product's compatibility with your particular type of flooring, carry out a spot test on a hidden area, or unused piece, to confirm its suitability.

  • When treating surfaces that have been recently laid or where the tiles have just been grouted, first allow the adhesives or grout used for the process to cure before applying this treatment.

  • Routine cleaning of the surfaces that have been stain-proofed with the Faber AT Lux can be carried out with solutions from the same brand, such as the Neugel unit.

  • Note that the Faber AT Lux is particularly intended for the indoor surfaces, and hence should not be applied onto outdoor installations.

  • When time comes to dewax the surface, it's recommended that you use Dec 21 or the Decera P depending on the particular situation.
