Turn To The Faber Hidro 150 To Protect Natural Stones From Stains

Natural stone surfaces like granite and marble, terracotta installations with their earthy red and brown colourations that bring a rustic look to the space, to the agglomerates where the focus is on enhancing the durability and aesthetic appeal of the structure- they come with their different benefits. The hues, grain patterns, character of the surface, the resultant polished or honed effect that is achieved based on the  property owner's needs- loads of energy and resources go into setting up the installations, be they kitchen countertops, the floors in the living room at home, lobbies in commercial spaces, gyms and supermarket floors, or even the conservatory. While they are tough materials, their longevity is tied to how properly they are maintained. Proper care is needed to protect the structures from effects of day-to-day life, like the elements constantly bearing down on them, the dirt and grime that accelerates wear, to spills which can seep deep into the material and cause staining. Units like the Faber Hidro 150 come in to enable you to protect your installation.

A core consideration when applying maintenance products to surfaces is their safety. While the structures are durable, it doesn’t mean they are invulnerable. Using the wrong chemicals on them can cause reactions that corrode the material, and weaken the structural integrity of the installation. Dulling and permanent staining can also occur, which ruins the appeal of the surface. You want to work with a product that you can trust, and Faber provided a wide range of them, specialised for the different applications. This is an industry leader in surface care, developing products specially formulated for the natural stone, like marble and limestone, to manmade materials like cotto and agglomerates. The range of products under the brand span from abrasives and polishes, cleaners that are used for the day-to-day care, stain removers that tackle those water-based and oil-based stains adhering to the surface, finishes and waxes that accentuate the treated surface, to protective sealers such as the Faber Hidro 150 under review here. The company maintains strict quality standards when developing the products, and has achieved ISO 14001:2004 and ISO:9001:2008 certification, issued by the Certifying Body Certiquality. The popularity of their products has seen them grow a wide market base, across Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Having been in the industry for over 3 decades,  obtaining membership of the ISSA- the global network of operators within the surface cleaning and maintenance industry, becoming members of the Green Building Council Singapore, and the Green Building Council Italia where they are founding members of its Marche Chapter, you can rest assured that you’re dealing with a company that is committed to delivering quality products that meet customer satisfaction.

High-performance stain-proofing treatment

With the Faber Hidro 150, you get to provide the treated surface with long-lasting protection against both water-based and oil-based stains. It achieves this without forming a surface film, meaning aspects such as the breathability of the natural stone are not affected. The formulation comes with resistance to UV radiation and doesn’t yellow. The colour or tone of the material being worked on are also preserved, so you won’t have to worry about the aesthetic appeal of your installation being altered.

This is a neutral water-based product, making it safe for a wide range of surfaces. You can use it on outdoor surfaces since it is resistant to the elements, and also indoor installations where cases of spills are most frequent, to stain-proof marble surfaces, its agglomerates including marble-cement and marble-resin agglomerates, cotto, terracotta, quartzite and porphyry, all through to granite and terracotta. Its certification for food use makes it also safe for use on kitchen worktops. The Faber Hidro 150 can also be applied together with a high penetrant water-repellent primer. However, in this case, ensure that the primer that is used first dries before you add the Faber Hidro 150 coat to the surface.

The Faber Hidro 150 also allows you to make savings on your building’s care and maintenance budget. This is due to the affordable price of the units, a wide coverage rate where each litre of product gets to be applied on 15 to 20m2 of surface, plus the reduced load during the routine cleaning operations, which is attributed to the stain-resistance provided by the product. The formulation is available in 1L bottles- 12 units in each box, and 5L cans- 4 units per box.

Easy to work with

The application process is straightforward. Different tools can be employed depending on what is in your arsenal, and the size of the surface that you intend to work on. For instance, you can use a brush, lambswool applicator, roller, or airless applicator.  Before you get started, ensure that you have given the surface a thorough clean, removing the dirt that is present on it, since this would just hamper the effectiveness of the product. In addition, let the surface dry, as the Faber Hidro 150 should not be applied on wet areas. It can treat those surfaces that are slightly damp, but the goal is to ensure that the target surface is as dry as possible. Once ready, you can proceed with the application.

Spread a thin and even coat of the Faber Hidro 150 onto the surface. Ensure that the entire area is covered. Each litre of the formulation can be used on 15 to 20m2 of surface. Leave the product undisturbed, and it will have dried in 1 hour. That's all that is needed. For floors, give it an extra hour or 2 before you allow foot traffic back onto it. There are two particular situations to take note of:

  • For surfaces with a low absorbency, there may be light residues left behind. Don’t fret. You can easily wipe them off with a clean and dry cloth.

  • When it comes to surfaces with a high absorbency, an additional coat of product will need to be applied. This is done 45 minutes after the first Faber Hidro 150 coat is applied.
