Professional Carpet Cleaning Equipment
Professional Carpet Cleaning Equipment
The carpet cleaning industry can make you a wealthy man or a broke man. If you understand the importance of “knowing” what you are doing and “why”, you can make a lot of money. Quality carpet cleaning equipment and quality carpet cleaning products can make carpet cleaning much easier and even fun. There are many different types of carpet cleaning systems and thousands of different carpet cleaning shampoos available to the professional market so how would you know what to pick out of all these options?
Well, we will tell you. Our company deep cleans carpets since 2006 and we know what works where. This was the main reason that we got involved in selling carpet cleaning products. Because most of the small & medium carpet cleaning contractors are working much more than they need and spending more money than they have too.
In this article we will focus on extraction carpet cleaning systems. This type of carpet cleaning technology is the most widely used carpet cleaning system in Ireland.
Professional Carpet Cleaning Equipment – What is your plan?
Before buying a professional carpet cleaning machine you will need to decide what your plan is. Most brands of carpet cleaning machines offer small, medium and big carpet cleaning equipment. Cleaning a commercial carpet with a tiny carpet cleaning machine would be a bad idea while carrying a big carpet cleaning machine on the stairs just to clean a small sofa will damage your health in the long run.
Small Carpet Cleaning Machines – solution tank up to 10 L – suitable for sofa cleaning, chair cleaning & small domestic jobs.
Medium Carpet Cleaning Machines – solution tank up to 30 L – suitable for domestic carpet cleaning projects, sofa cleaning, mattress cleaning, curtain cleaning, rug cleaning, etc
Big Carpet Cleaning Machines – solution tank up to 60 L – suitable for commercial carpet cleaning projects or domestic carpets as well if extra hoses can be attached.
The question in most carpet cleaning contractors head is, why would you not just buy a big carpet cleaning machine and connect extra hoses? Well, you can do that, in fact many people do just that, but if you have 2-6 projects per day, loading a 50 kilo machine on and off the van will damage your back. A commercial carpet cleaning machine with 55-60 L solution tank should be used for big carpet surfaces. A full tank will allow you to work around 2 hours without having to refill. You should only have to unload it once per day.
What is the Difference Between Carpet Cleaning Brands?
Well, the most popular brand for carpet cleaning machines is Prochem. They make some of the most reliable carpet cleaning machines. Within the Prochem range there are machines that are not that good but the most popular ones are very good. Changing a motor or a pump in a Prochem carpet cleaning machine is such an easy job. Replacement parts are available, easy to source and not that expensive.
Craftex also make amazing carpet cleaning machines. The motors and the pumps are more or less the same in all brands of carpet cleaning machines but the hoses, fittings, wands, etc. can vary in quality from brand to brand. While some brands of carpet cleaning equipment make all the nozzles and connectors from plastic, other make them from brass.
There are other types of carpet cleaning machines available in Ireland. Truckmounts, dry carpet cleaning systems and many types of extraction carpet cleaning machines. Like in any industry, there are 2-3 market leaders.
Professional Carpet Cleaning Equipment – Power input
A very important thing to bear in mind when you buy a professional carpet cleaning machine is the power input. Many domestic properties have very low power input. Many cleaning companies have found themselves in very bad situations by damaging the electricity in the jobs where they were working. A professional carpet cleaning machine with 3 extraction motors and 1 powerful pump will require a lot of power to operate. This power is something too much for a standard domestic socket.
Professional Carpet Cleaning Equipment – Wands
The wand is one of the most important parts of a carpet cleaning system. You can have the most powerful carpet cleaning machine in the world but if the wand cannot distribute that power in the right way then the machine will not be very effective. A wand has to be suitable for your carpet cleaning machine. Small carpet cleaning machines are fitted with a 1 nozzle wand, medium carpet cleaning machines are fitted with 2 nozzle wands while the big commercial carpet cleaning machines and the truckmounts are fitted with 3+ nozzle wands. Having a 3 nozzle wand with a small carpet cleaning machine will be very inefficient. The pump will not be able to generate enough power to create enough pressure for all the nozzles. From our experience, we believe that the best wand is the two nozzle wand. The two nozzle wand will distribute the pressure evenly and is the lightest and easiest to operate. This wand is only suitable for medium and high pressure systems.
Professional Carpet Cleaning Equipment – Servicing
Any quality carpet cleaning system will be fitted with premium motors and pumps. A standard pump should last about 3 years if used right while the motors will operate hassle free up to 2 years. We are talking about proper use. The main issue with the pumps will be limescale and rust. Up to a few years back, the pumps were fitted with steel fittings that could easily rust. But then the shurflo pumps came around and that issue was sorted. Hard water can be a great enemy for a pressure pump. Most professional carpet cleaning contractors descale their systems once in a while. Just add a limescale breaker within the cleaning solution to break all the deposits of limescale that can build up around the connectors and fittings.
A machine needs to be serviced regularly. Regular means different things to different people. If you use the system a lot, a 3 months service is recommended, if you hardly use the machine, once per year service will do the job. Check your machine for leaks. Bear in mind that you use water and electricity inside a machine. Any leak in the wrong place can kill you.
Professional Carpet Cleaning Equipment – Insurance
Commercial carpet cleaning equipment can cost a lot of money so it is always a good idea to insure your stuff. Comprehensive insurance doesn’t cost the earth and it will be worthwhile to have it if your van goes missing.
