Faber SHS Wax Review
Foot traffic is one of the key factors that affect the longevity of a floor. Areas that handle high levels of traffic, such as retail stores, hospitals, educational facilities and entertainment centres, need to be equipped with floors that can handle the amount of stresses involved. The first step is selecting an installation with a strong structure in itself. This is why natural stones, carved out over millennia by earth’s natural forces, are popular. However, it doesn’t stop there. If neglected, even the most durable of the installations will wear down and lose its structural integrity. With proper care, the installation can last as long as the building itself. Then there are factors such as the accidental food and drink spills, which are bound to happen regardless of how careful one is. All it takes is a wine glass getting knocked over a table and suddenly there is a red mess seeping into the stone, forming an unsightly stain. Maintenance measures include routine cleaning, plus applying protective treatments. This is where units like the Faber SHS Wax come in.
Benefits Of The Faber SHS Wax
The Faber SHS Wax adds to the protection of the surface. This wax resin formulation is used to treat surfaces that come under high levels of foot traffic, thereby shielding the underlying structure of the abrasion effects even in commercial establishments. You can also use the Faber SHS Wax on floors in warehouses, garages and car showrooms, since it will be able to withstand medium levels of vehicle traffic as well. This goes a long way in preserving the longevity of your installation, and avoiding hefty repair and replacement costs that would have been caused by the barrage of abuse that the floors handle on a daily basis.
The water-based Faber SHS Wax makes the stone surfaces pop. It brings out the tone of the structure, making the coloration more prominent and sprucing up the interior decor. The self-polishing formulation enhances the shine of the surface that is treated, and the light bouncing off the coat that has been applied makes the premises more vibrant. What's more, the Faber SHS Wax does not yellow over time, that way the finished result gets to last for longer.
The Faber SHS Wax comes with oil and water repellent properties. In addition, it seals the textured surfaces onto which it has been applied. This prevents water-based and oil-based spills from seeping into the underlying structure, thereby protecting it from staining. Add to this the dirt-resistant nature of the material, which prevents the soiling from adhering to the surface. This has the welcome benefit of making it easy to clean the surface, making the routine maintenance a breeze. To clean surfaces that have been treated with the Faber SHS Wax, use the Neugel formulation, which is also from Faber. When the time comes for a restoration, you can dilute the Faber SHS Wax with a 1:5 ratio, and then apply the solutions to the floor. Alternatively, you can restore the surface using Faber MANU'. The dewaxing itself is carried out with tough acting products like the Faber Dec 21 or the Decera P.
Suitable for a diverse range of stones
This formulation is ideal for applying onto large floor surfaces. It is typically used for indoor applications, and is safe for treating different types of stones, ranging from granite, marble, quartzite, limestone, travertine, the different kinds of porcelain stoneware including textured, and natural variants, slate, cementina, and even agglomerates such as the marble-cement agglomerate. With a wide 15-20m²/L coverage rate, each unit purchased gets to be used on a wide area, thus saving on costs.
To treat the surface with the Faber SHS Wax, simply apply it onto the target area, ensuring that the coat is uniform, and then wait for it to dry. You can use a roller or lambswool applicator. The self-polishing nature of the unit will bring out that shine. You can still choose to take things up a notch with some extra polishing. After the application, give the floor 2-3 hours to dry. Foot traffic can be allowed onto the area after 4-6 hours. When it comes to dealing with build-ups, there are two points to note:
Firstly, it’s recommended that you work in small sections at a time. This is to enable you to ensure that you evenly apply the product. When you notice a build-up on a section as you are still working in it, you can proceed to redistribute the excess product over that specific area.
If you notice build-ups later on after you have already moved on from the affected section, do not disturb it, but rather allow the entire first layer that has been allowed to fully cure. After this, you can intervene during the polishing stage, which will enable you to rectify the situation.
The popular application tools for the process are rollers and lambswool applicators. Textured surfaces and floors that are particularly absorbent can have a second layer being applied. This should be done after the first coat has dried. Generally speaking, one should wait for 2-3hours before applying subsequent coats of the Faber SHS Wax. For the polishing, a mechanical floor polisher is used. Note that this should be done after a minimum of 3 to 4 hours after applying the product. After the process, the equipment used can be cleaned with water.
Tips For Using The Faber SHS Wax
Before applying the product onto the surface, first give the floor a thorough clean. Any dust or dirt that is present would only serve to ruin the intended polish. Besides, you don't want grime that gets stuck under the wax coat, where the process of removing it would be far more cumbersome. Avoid this by ensuring that that surface is clean and dry.
Surface temperature also comes into focus. It should not be overly heated. The ideal temperature range for application is 5 - 40°C.
Apply the Faber SHS Wax following one direction. In case a second coat of application is needed, follow a direction that is perpendicular to that taken with the first layer.
