Polifilm 10 Solvent Based Gap Filler For Wood | Why Use It

There are two types of gap fillers, water based and solvent based gap fillers. While the water based gap filler is much more “eco”, it takes much longer to dry and in some cases where the floors are very flexible, it could crack very soon after it is applied. The new Polifilm 10 Solvent Based Gap Filler For Wood is a professional solvent based gap filler highly appreciated by the floor refinishing and floor sanding trade. It allows the user to work faster, fill up larger gaps and increase profitability. The product will release some level of fumes but nothing dramatic.

Polifilm 10 Solvent Based Gap Filler For Wood | Where To Use It

Filling up the gaps between the floorboards is highly recommended in old Georgian homes where the draught can make the property very cold, in properties where the carpet is being lifted up after many years and the floorboards look in perfect condition but the gaps could lead to liquid spills on the lower level ceilings, in the cases where the property owner has pets and the dirt deposits inside the gaps or in the cases where the property owners prefers a wood floor without gaps. Filling up the gaps does not mean that the gaps are lost for good or the floor looks like it has no gaps at all. The surface will end up looking the same but the gaps will be sealed, nothing will get through the gaps, including the draught. The new Polifilm 10 Solvent Based Gap Filler For Wood  can be used to fill up all gaps between indoor wood surfaces.

Polifilm 10 Solvent Based Gap Filler For Wood | How To Use It

Do not use the new Polifilm 10 Solvent Based Gap Filler For Wood on already sealed surfaces. The wood surface has to be sealant free, dry and fixed to the base. Make sure that the composition is like a thick cream to prevent it from leaking down between the gaps. Apply enough gap filler composition until all the gaps look overfilled by 10%. Allow it to dry for about 1 hour. If any of the gap filler has dried up and it looks lower than the floor, touch it up with more gap filler. When the surface is fully dry, proceed to the sanding. Re-sand the whole floor one more time with 80 grit sandpaper until the floor looks stain free and the gaps look as flat as the floor. Vacuum the whole floor and prepare for the next steps on the floor refinishing road. The sealed gaps will absorb the wood stain just like the rest of the floor.

Polifilm 10 Solvent Based Gap Filler For Wood | Durability

The durability of the gap filler will depend on a number of factors. How stable the floor is. The size of the gaps. If the application was done as recommended by the manufacturer and the traffic. High traffic commercial floors are likely to get damaged much faster than a residential parquet floor for exemple. More movement within the wood floor itself, the bigger the chance of cracks within the gap filler.

***This product is mostly suitable for the professional floor sanding and floor refinishing trade. While the results can be spectacular when the work is done right, it can also end up staining the wood when used by untrained people***
