Professional Floor Care With The Faber Concrete Hardener

Sealing and polishing concrete surfaces is key to preserving the structural integrity of the flooring, and increasing its durability. Coming under a barrage of abuse on a daily basis from foot traffic, the machinery that is used, all through to the occasional spills, ensures that proper maintenance measures are carried out will protect your installation. Issues such as staining, chipping and discolouration are warded off, and it even reduces the workload during the routine cleaning jobs. What’s more, when done properly, the grinding and polishing sets a beautiful surface that resembles the shine obtained from natural stone. When it comes down to the nitty-gritty of the work itself, there is plenty of work that needs to be done. Dealing with the heavy equipment, the intense friction that is generated and the copious amounts of water needed to lubricate the tools, the extra drying time to allow the water absorbed by the concrete to evaporate before applying additional treatments- it builds up into a lengthy process. The Faber Concrete Hardener has been developed to make the task easier and more efficient.

Water-based hardening sealer

The Faber Concrete Hardener is a water-repellent formulation that enables you to deal with a wide range of problems caused by moisture in the concrete. They include rising damp which causes issues like flaking and paint peeling off, unsightly damp marks that are difficult to get rid of, and even cases of rust formation, and saline efflorescence. Aspects like grout removal and the cleaning that is carried out after the installation are also made easier. You can use the Faber Concrete Hardener on indoor surfaces as well as outdoor applications. With a coverage rate of 10-15m² per litre of product, each unit purchased gets to be used on a wide surface area.

A core function of the Faber Concrete Hardener is making the polishing process more effective. It achieves this in different t ways. For starters, the water-repellent nature of the product cuts down the drying time required due to the water used during the mechanical polishing process. As such, you are able to get through the task faster and proceed onto the latter stages of applying the finishes. You get to work on a larger area within a short time frame, meaning less resources are spent on the task. What’s more, the Faber Concrete Hardener reduces the wear and tear that is usually witnessed on the polishing tools, which is a welcome bonus as you also want your gear to last for longer.

This unit preserves the original appearance of the material. With the Faber Concrete Hardener, you get to obtain the protective attributes without altering aspects such as the look of the floor, or the breathability of the concrete. The Concrete Hardener penetrates deep into the material, bonding with the structure without leaving behind any surface film. It’s also an eco-friendly treatment, and does not come with volatile organic compounds. This makes it safe to apply for the persons on the premises, and does not affect the indoor air quality. In fact, the product has also been certified for application on food preparation areas like kitchen countertops. The Faber Concrete Hardener can also be applied during the mechanical sanding that is carried out before the tiles or slabs are laid.

Even the subsequent treatments get a boost. For instance, if a stain-proofer will be applied, the Faber Concrete Hardener will increase its effectiveness and enhance the durability of the finish. In addition, it enhances the results that are obtained with the polishing grains, accentuating the aesthetics of the interior space.

How To Use The Faber Concrete Hardener

  1. Carry out the initial sanding, using 200-400 grain sizes. Ideally, this should be done dry, that way you won’t have to wait for an additional drying time before the Faber Concrete Hardener is applied.
  • If the initial sanding was done with water being involved in the process, you’ll need to wait for 24 to 48 hours before commencing the Faber Concrete Hardener treatment. You can also reduce this drying time by applying the product before you begin sanding with the first mechanical polishing grains. This will go a long way in reducing the amount of water that has been absorbed by the concrete, speeding up the drying process.
  1. Apply the Faber Concrete Hardener onto the surface. You can use a brush, roller, or work with a lambswool applicator. Note that the surface at this point should be as dry as possible for you to apply this formulation.
  • The product should be applied abundantly, ensuring that you have formed an even layer covering the entire area. If you’re treating a highly absorbent surface, you can add a second coat of the Faber Concrete Hardener after waiting for about 1 to 2 hours from when the initial coat was applied.
  1. Continue with the polishing process after at least 4 hours have elapsed, moving onto the grain size that is to follow the one you had stopped at before applying the hardener. From this step you should use water. If there is any residue of the product, don’t concern yourself about it, since it will be removed during the polishing.
  2. Apply the preferred finishing polishes after reaching the 800 grain size. The Faber Concrete Hardener enables you to do it this early, which would be equated to having to wait until the 1500 to 3000 grain sizes being used with the conventional mechanical polishing process.

After you’re done with the application, use water to wash the equipment. When it comes to maintaining floors treated with the Faber Concrete Hardener, the following products are recommended: Neugel, AlgaFloor and Faber 30 for the cleaning; CristalFab, Star Shine or K400 new for the occasional polishing; and the Hidro 150 or Faber B1 700 for stain-proofing the surface.

Tips For Using The Faber Concrete Hardener

  • Ensure that the concrete being treated has dried and cured completely before applying the product.
  • While you can continue polishing the floor 4 hours after applying the Faber Concrete Hardener, if you’ve got the time, it is recommended that you want till the following day, during which period the treatment will have spread and completely cured within the structure.
