Clear Old Treatments With The Faber Solvent Stripper

Floors and other waxed surfaces take a beating during our day-to-day activities. The foot traffic and pets clawing on the floors, countertops where meals are prepared, the walls that come under the effects of temperature and humidity fluctuations, as well as intentional damage such as when kids go scrawling all over the surface with marker pens – it takes a toll on the affected surfaces. Spills that form unsightly stains, the tough scrubbing that is undertaken to remove them, the chemical action when strong liquids corrode the existing finish coats, abrasion effects as people walk about the premises – it’s a whole string of abuse that gradually causes the affected surfaces to lose their charm. That glossy finish that had been achieved when you initially waxed the surface is replaced by a dilapidated result that drags down the décor of the premises in the process. Stripping and rewaxing is part and parcel of routine surface care. It’s basically “Out with the old; In with the new”, where the deteriorated treatments are removed, and a fresh new layer of wax is applied. The Faber Solvent Stripper gives you a fresh start to renovate the surfaces.

Bringing A New Look To Your Old, Stained Tiles

The Faber Solvent Stripper is a solvent-based formulation that works to remove old wax and layers of existing treatments that are on the installation, getting to the original bare surface undeath. It delivers superior wax-stripping action, with the capacity of breaking down multiple layers of finish, and setting the stage for the new coats to be applied. Ensuring that the new finish layers bond directly with the surface is core to the success of the renovation process that is being carried out. The new coatings of wax applied will protect the surface from wear and scratches, to preserve the structural integrity of the installation for longer.

How often this sipping and rewaxing should be carried out will depend on the rate of deterioration of the existing treatment. This is in turn determined by issues such as the levels of traffic that are handled in the facility. With floors, it is generally recommended that you have them stripped and waxed once or twice a year. Establishments like schools, restaurants, retail stores and other high traffic venues can require more frequent cycles. However, choosing a strong waxing treatment that matches the traffic levels of the premises will increase the duration between successive renovations. With the Faber Solvent Stripper, you will be able to ensure that all the residue from the old coats has been cleared, that way the subsequent treatment will be in its optimal condition.

Dealing With Stubborn Dirt And Grime

The functionality of the Faber Solvent Stripper extends to removing the difficult gunk that typically cannot be handled by conventional detergents. This ranges from greasy residue that clings to the surface to oxidation marks that defy routine cleaning measures, and even those oily stains that have formed dark patches on the floors. The tough-acting Faber Solvent Stripper penetrates into the material, breaking down the grime and removing it from the structure, for you to restore a clean state to the space.

While tough on the dirt, this wax stripper is gentle on the surfaces. In fact, it is suitable for a vast range of materials, including marble, travertine limestone, granite and other natural stone installations, cement, cotto, terracotta, all through to quartz agglomerates, as well as natural and polished porcelain tile. You can also use the Faber Solvent Stripper to work on tile joints in order to remove the deeply ingrained soiling. Performing a test on a hidden section of the target surface, or an unused piece of tile will enable you to confirm whether or not the product is suitable for your particular type of surface.

To use the Faber Solvent Stripper, pour it directly onto the surface, and scrub it in with your desired tool. For instance, on small sections, you can use a cloth, while for floors you can work with a mop or single disc machine. This formulation comes ready to use, so no dilution will be necessary. Give it around 5 – 10 minutes of dwell time, during which it will break down the contents on the surface. You can still continue scrubbing the area, and the additional mechanical action will improve the effectiveness of the product’s penetration into the material. Thereafter, the residues are removed, and then the surface is thoroughly rinsed.

Note that:

  • The surfaces being worked on should be dry. It’s also recommended to sweep or vacuum the areas to remove loose dirt and debris.

  •  The area should be well ventilated during the application. If you’re in a space without a good airflow, you can take measures like setting up fans at the front of the windows or doors to improve circulation, and wear protective gear like a respirator mask. However, be careful not to point the fans directly to the surface on which the product has been applied, as this could result in the wax stripper being dried out too fast, interfering with the process.

  • If any of the product accidentally spills, grab an absorbent material e.g., a paper towel, to soak up the contents, then dispose them in the appropriate waste container.

Double Wax Stripping

The deep cleaning action of the Faber Solvent Stripper can be further enhanced by using it in combination with formulations like the Alkaline Cleaner or Wax Remover, which are also from the same brand. This is “double wax stripping, delivering even more residue removing power to the target surface.

Here, you will first apply the undiluted Solvent Stripper on the surface, working it in with tools like a cloth or mop. Give the product time to chemically break down the dirt, greasy material or wax. 5 to 10 minutes should suffice. Then, without clearing the contents or rinsing the area, pour the preferred alkaline wax stripper – Alkaline Cleaner/Wax Remover – onto the area and use a broom or single disc machine to agitate the contents and work the formulations into the surface. Follow the instructions on the respective product labels for this, then remove the residues and rinse that area.
