Chimiver ECOCROM | Acrylic-Polyurethane Toning Wood Primer | Why Use It
Using a primer before varnishing | lacquering the wood is the best way of sealing the surface, reducing porosity and reducing varnish | lacquer absorption. While some wood floor primers are clear, others contain some toning agents. The new Chimiver ECOCROM | Acrylic-Polyurethane Toning Wood Primer is a water based floor primer with a hint of “peachy” finish. The product is a deep penetrating wood primer that slightly darkens the wood surface to create an oldish look. Some types of wood surfaces are very white and “cold”. 1 or 2 coats of the new Chimiver ECOCROM | Acrylic-Polyurethane Toning Wood Primer will create a cozy and warm finish.
Chimiver ECOCROM | Acrylic-Polyurethane Toning Wood Primer | Where To Use It
While the new Chimiver ECOCROM | Acrylic-Polyurethane Toning Wood Primer is at its best when used to seal hardwood and semi solid wood floors, it can also be successfully used to seal and enhance wood furniture, wood doors, wood frames, wood skirting, wood walls & all other types of unsealed wooden surfaces. It can be used indoors and outdoors subject to using the most appropriate top coat to protect it. The primer has little protection qualities on its own, its main job is to prepare and tone the wood surface & then it has to be overcoated with any water based or solvent based floor lacquer.
Chimiver ECOCROM | Acrylic-Polyurethane Toning Wood Primer | How To Use It
Surface preparation is the most important step. The wood surface has to be sealant free, dry & clean. All old pre-existing sealers have to be fully removed by sanding. The surface has to be finished with 100 grit sandpaper before priming it. The estimated coverage area for this wood primer is around 10 sq meters per 1L but it can vary depending on the type of wood, the quality of the sanding job and the application method.
Vacuum the surface well a number of times
Using a small brush start applying the primer around the edges
For the larger areas use a good varnishing roller
Move along with the fiber of the wood and not against it
Allow it to dry 1-2 hours
Re-sand the whole surface with 150-180 grit sandpaper
Vacuum the whole floor well and the project is ready for lacquering
Do not use the product when the outside temperature is below 10C or above 30C.
Chimiver ECOCROM | Acrylic-Polyurethane Toning Wood Primer | Recommendations
Use enough product to be able to impregnate the wood evenly being careful not to miss any patches of wood. After the priming job is done remember to seal the whole surface with 2-3 coats of lacquer. Buy enough floor primer to have enough for the whole project. Do not mix up the product with any other wood primer from Chimiver or other brands. Do not touch other wood surfaces that do not require priming. Clean all your tools with clean water. Keep the product in a cool and dry place away from direct sunlight.
