Chimiver Lios Bioil Natural 1L | How To Use It
Surface preparation is essential while oiling floors or refreshing oiled floors. The main advantage of any type of floor oil is the fact that it does not glaze the surface and it maintains the natural aspect of the wood fiber. That can become a problem if the base surface is not finished to perfection. Basically, any deep scratch, any imperfection or any issue that was created during the sanding process will be made more visible. The new Chimiver Lios Bioil Natural Floor Oil 1L has to be applied to a real wood surface that is brand new and never sealed before or a newly sanded surface that is 100% sealer free.
- Assuming that the wood surface is raw and sealant free, vacuum the floor well to make sure that even the smallest grain of dust is extracted. Protect the areas that do not need oiling with masking tape and prepare for oiling.
- Shake the oil tin well to create an even composition and put a pair of gloves on. Soak a cloth in the floor oil and start applying the oil to the edges. Apply enough oil so the wood looks wet but without creating oil puddles. Remove all excess oil as you move along. When done with all the edges move to the larger area. If a floor buffer or special applicator is not available, use the same cloth used to do the edges to apply the floor oil on the larger areas. Remember, it is essential to move along with the fiber of the wood and not against it. When the whole floor looks touched up and wet, you are done with the first step.
- About 30 minutes later, go over all the areas with a clean microfiber cloth and try to remove as much excess oil as you can. By now, the wood would have absorbed all the oil needed and the excess will just stay on the top. By going over with a clean microfiber cloth, all excess oil will be extracted and the surfaces can start the process of drying. A second coat can be done within 24 hours if needed.
***Do not walk on or use the floor for at least 12-24 hours after the original oiling. Open all the windows to create draft or put the heating on to speed up the drying process***
