Stain Removal With The Faber Oxidant
The surface needs to be first cleaned to remove the dust and debris that is on it. Get rid of the grime that can be washed off, and then allow the surface to dry. Speaking of which, the Faber Oxidant should not be used on wet surfaces. At most they should just be slightly damp. In case there is a layer of wax, this can also be removed through the double stripping method. Once ready, you can proceed with the application. Follow these steps:
- Pour the Faber Oxidant onto the target area. It comes ready to use, hence should not be diluted. You can also use a brush or spatula for the application, depending on what you find to be convenient for your situation. The goal is to cover the area with a thick layer of the stain remover.
- Let the product dwell on the surface until the stain has been removed. How long this will take will depend on factors such as the kind of stain involved, how stubborn it is, and how deep it has set into the surface, plus the length of time which has been allowed to stay unattended to. General time frames include:
- In case you’re dealing with the damp stain or the dark marks which are as a result of water absorption, it can take 8 hours to a day’s length. The same case applies for the yellow stains which come about due to water penetrating the surface, or cases like rising damp.
- With tannin and nicotine stains, it will take just 2 to 8 hours.
- There are those cases where the stains being removed defied products like the No Mac Gel. Here, simply apply the Faber Oxidant and give it 1 – 6 hours to tackle the stain.
- For rust removal when using the Faber Mar Gel Plus, the Oxidant comes in at the latter stages. Here, allow double the hours allocated to the Mar Gel Plus.
- Remove the mixture of product and residue from the surface. They may be wet or dry depending on your situation. Absorbent cloths can be used especially when dealing with the surfaces with a small area. Brooms, absorbent rags or damp mops can be used for the larger surfaces. Wiping with a cloth that is slightly damp and allowing it to dry will enable you to accurately assess the results of the stain removal.
- If the result is not as expected, you can repeat the application process, or crank things up a notch by first sanding down the surface.
- Rinse the surface thoroughly with water.
- Allow to dry.
After you’re done with the task, wash the equipment used with water.
Get The Most Out Of The Faber Oxidant With These Extra Tips
- Never mix the product with any other chemical. The formulation produces active oxygen, and you don’t want unfortunate incidences occurring. The only product that it can be mixed with is the Faber Poultice, a thickening powder from the same brand.
- Speaking of the Poultice formulation, using it with the Faber Oxidant is also a breeze. Start by preparing the mixture. Here, add the Oxidant into a holding unit such as a bucket, then slowly top up with the Poultice. Simultaneously use a spoon, spatula or other similar tools to mix the content. Gradually keep adding the Poultice and mixing until you achieve a creamy result. If it’s too dense, add the Oxidant, and if it’s too liquid, add the Poultice. Once the slurry and creamy consistency has been obtained, apply the mixture onto the target surface. Ensure that you have achieved a layer that is thick and uniform, completely covering the section.
- Applying a thick layer of product, especially for those cases where the stain removal process may require a longer waiting period, helps you to avoid having to keep topping up more due to it drying out too quickly. You can also cover the layer of the Faber Oxidant with a nylon or plastic sheet. In fact, it increases the effectiveness of the formulation, by focussing its action on the stain itself instead of the surrounding environment. In case you do cover the formulation, after the waiting time has passed and you remove the sheet, allow it to remain exposed for about an hour before you proceed to move it and clean the surface. When dealing with the small areas, the borders of the sheet/film that is used can be fixed with adhesive tape to keep it from coming off. Note that you shouldn’t tape the area that has been covered with the Oxidant, but just the borders of the film to keep it taped down.
- For the deep stains on natural stone, like when you’re dealing with the damp spots and yellow staining, mechanical polishing can come in handy. It will enhance the surface abruption of the Faber Oxidant, enabling it to penetrate deeper into the stone and remove the stain. For the polishing, issues like the grain size also come into play. For instance, with the stains that are deeply set into the structure, a lower grain size will be needed. This enables the stain removal to be carried out within a shorter time. While on this point, it’s recommended that you carry out an initial test before the application to ascertain whether or not some mechanical polishing will be needed. After the stain removal is completed, remember to polish the surface to restore the shine.
- After removing the stains, it’s highly recommended that you apply a stain-proofing product to the surface. Your choice here depends on the specific material of the structure involved.
- With regards to the working conditions, first the surface should not be overly heated. Ideal temperatures for treatment range between 5 and 40°C. In addition, if it’s about to rain or frost, or for the cases when it is misty, you can postpone the treatment to a later time. When dealing with surfaces that have been recently installed and where the grout has just been applied, let it first completely cure before applying the stain remover.
- It’s recommended that you apply the Faber Oxidant stain remover on an area that is larger than the stain itself. For instance, you can treat the entire tile or even the whole room, depending on how small or large the stain is, and how it has spread out. Remember to first carry out a spot test on an inconspicuous area to ascertain the compatibility of the product with your particular installation.
