Protect Your Floors With The Faber Finishing Wax

Plenty of investment goes into giving your home or workplace an elegant look. From the furnishings paintwork, right through to the floor and decorative elements that are set up in the space, no doubt you took your time to pick out the right fit for your style and décor preferences. With the floors in particular, polishing it goes a long way in giving it a lustrous effect that accentuates the rest of the space. It’s not just about looks. A properly polished floor using the right finishing agent gives it a barrier of protection against the barrage of abuse it receives on a daily basis, ranging from wear effects due to foot traffic, to staining from spills. Faber Finishing Wax in particular comes in to combine these attributes, giving you optimal value for your budget.

Shines and Protects

The water-based Faber Finishing Wax brings a shine to floors, simultaneously setting a satin effect that spruces up the ambience of the space. It enhances the aesthetic attributes of the installation – from the colour and tone, to the patterns, making them more prominent. This effect is maintained for long, seeing that the Faber Finishing Wax does not yellow over time unlike conventional products in the market.

Day-to-day maintenance of floors treated with the Faber Finishing Wax is also a breeze. By sealing the textured surfaces onto which it has been applied, it creates a layer that prevents the dirt from adhering to the surface. This means that the grime that lands on the floor can easily be cleaned off. The formulation also protects it from the effects of foot traffic, by increasing the surface’s resistance to daily wear and tear. This preserves the structural integrity of the installation, giving the floor a longer lifespan and enabling you to avoid costly repairs and replacements that would have otherwise cropped up down the road.

You can use the Faber Finishing Wax on a wide range of absorbent or textured floors, and even rough installations. It’s compatible with granite, marble, limestone and other natural floor materials, blends like marble-cement agglomerates, all through to concrete and cotto installations. It is particularly recommended for use on installations that have a brushed, distressed, textured or a finely sanded finish. You can also use the Faber Finishing Wax to bring that shine to parquet or natural wood floors.

Note that the Faber Finishing Wax is only formulated for use on indoor surfaces. Also, do not apply it on acid-treated surfaces. In case you intend to use it on tiles that have been recently laid, or where the is fresh grout, first allow adequate time for the adhesives and grout to dry and cure before using the Faber Finishing Wax on the surface. As always, when it comes to floor treatment products, it is recommended to first test out the formulation on a hidden area to check its suitability for your particular situation – especially if it has been expressly stated that the product is compatible with your installation.

How To Use The Faber Finishing Wax

Follow these steps for the application:

  1. Start by cleaning the surface. Any dust or dirt that is on the floor will affect the action of the Faber Finishing Wax on the surface. Give it a thorough clean, and allow the surface to dry. This is because the formulation should never be applied onto wet surfaces.

Note that the wax should not be applied to overly heated surfaces. The optimal temperature range for the floor being worked on is 5 to 40°C.

Extra tip: You can apply a water-repellent formulation before proceeding to the next step. This is as the product acts deep in the surface, enhancing the catalysis of the Faber Finishing Wax on the target area.

  1. Apply the wax abundantly on the surface. You can use different tools depending on your particular situation, with the two popular options being a roller or a lambswool applicator.

Ensure that you have achieved an even layer on the entire area. If there are sections where you see the product building up, redistribute it as long as you’re still working on that specific area.

Extra tips:

  • Apply the wax following one direction.

  • If you have already moved to a different section, allow the first layer to cure before making any interventions to even out the Faber Finishing Wax. Since this intervention would call for a second coat to be applied on the section, it needs to be after the initial treatment has cured after around 3 to 4 hours, and is carried out using a mechanical polisher.

If you’re dealing with textured or highly absorbent surfaces, a second coat of the wax will need to be applied. This is added to the floor only after the first coat has fully dried – which can take 2 to 3 hours. For this extra layer, the application should follow a perpendicular direction to the first coat.

Given that this is a self-polishing wax, it will deliver that surface shine on its own. However, there are those who would like to make it even more polished. In this case, first allow 3-4 hours for the Faber Finishing Wax to cure, then use a traditional mechanical floor polisher that has a white or lambswool pad to polish to the desired shine level. This is also the case when dealing with flaws that caused build-ups in the first coat of the wax that had been applied.

Fast drying formulation

The Faber Finishing Wax minimises disruptions in the areas being worked on. It dries within 1-2 hours after application. Normal traffic can be allowed on the floor after at least 4 hours.

Maintaining Floors Treated With The Faber Finishing Wax

For subsequent cleaning tasks, these will be carried out with formulations that are determined by the compatibility of the particular floor in question. Faber, the brand, has a wide range of cleaning products to use for daily maintenance, like the Neutral Cleaner or Floor Cleaner products. To touch up the wax treatment and restore the shine, you can use Faber Maintenance Wax, or the Finishing Wax itself, but this time dilute it with water, mixing 1 part of the product with 5 parts water.
