It’s essential to use cleaning products that effectively remove stains without damaging the stone, making Faber Mar Gel Plus a suitable choice for this task.

Faber Mar Gel Plus effectively removes rust stains from various surfaces, including compact lime-based installations with brushed or polished finishes, without the need for additional chemicals. Its easy-to-apply gel formulation is suitable for limestone marble, travertine, acid-sensitive materials, concrete, cement-based grouts, and can even be used on walls and vertical surfaces.
To complete the process, after the Mar Gel Plus extracts the rust stains, the next measure will be to treat the surface with the Faber Oxidant. It will remove even the residue that is remaining within the structure. You can thereafter continue with the routine maintenance for surfaces treated with the Mar Gel Plus using formulations from the same brand, such as AlgaFloor or Neugel. When dealing with the stubborn dirt, you can use the Faber 30 or, depending on the type of surface, the Faber Deterfug formulation.
How To Use The Faber Mar Gel Plus
It comes ready to use, so no dilution will be needed. Here’s how to go about the application:
- Pour the Faber Mar Gel Plus directly onto the surface. You can use a brush or spatula. Ensure that the surface has been covered with a thick layer of the formulation.
As you remove the rust stain, you’ll notice a purple compound being formed when the Faber Mar Gel Plus comes into contact with it. This happens much quicker and in deeper intensity depending on the closeness of the rust stain to the surface.
- Allow the product sufficient dwelling time to dissolve the stain. Here, the specific time will depend on the stain being treated, its intensity, plus how long it had been left to set into the surface. It’s recommended that you carry out a test on the product’s reaction to determine how long you should wait for your particular situation.
To remove rust stains, wait 5 to 20 minutes for pale stains, 30 minutes to 3 hours for medium stains, and 4 to 10 hours for dark, deep-set stains. For longer removal times, apply a thick layer of the cleaning product to prevent it from drying out.
- Remove the mixture of product and residue from the surface. Soak them up with cloths or absorbent paper towels in case you’re working on a small surface. For the larger areas, you can bring out your squeegee to speed things up, before following through with the absorbent paper or cloth to ensure that all product has been completely removed. Apply Faber Oxidant to the treated area to remove that purple compound that was formed when the Mar Gel Plus reacted with the rust stain. Note that the Oxidant formulation should remain on the surface for twice the duration taken by the Mar Gel Plus to remove the stain.
- Rinse the surface using clean water, and allow it to dry. After this, it will be ready to use.
For the deep rust stains on the natural stones, you can use a mechanical polisher to pass over the area to boost the surface absorption and resultant penetration of the product. To further speed things up, use lower grain sizes for the polishing. You can test whether you can use a mechanical polisher on the surface before you start with the application.
Note that for the cases where the product is allowed to stay for extended periods on the surface, and based on how sensitive the material being treated is, and the type of surface, it may get dull. Don’t worry- you can quickly restore the shine with a Faber polish. You are also advised to apply a stain-proofing treatment that is compatible with your particular type of installation.
DOs And DON’Ts When Working With The Faber Mar Gel Plus
- DO clean the surface first to remove the dust, debris and grime from it.
- DON’T use the product on wet surfaces. Ensure that it is dry before application.
- DO apply the Faber Mar Gel Plus during the cooler parts of the day. You should avoid using it when the surfaces are overly heated.
- DON’T mix it with other solutions. The Faber Mar Gel Plus has been developed to be used alone.
- DO strip off layers of wax on the surface, if any, beforehand.
