While most people love the way the floor oil sinks inside the wood and maintains the natural look of the wood, most people also do not like the regular refreshing that comes with floor oils and natural hardwax oils. It looks 100% like oil, it behaves like oil and the wood feels natural and raw. The only difference is that the surface will not require the regular refreshing and re-oiling that comes with the normal floor oils.
So What is Ecowood Actually?
Chimiver ECOWOOD 2K is a professional two component water based polyurethane lacquer designed for wooden floors. What makes this lacquer particularly special is its ability to provide extremely strong protection while maintaining the appearance of natural untreated wood. Special resins create an exceptionally matt finish with only 3 to 5 gloss, producing a natural anti reflection effect rather than the traditional appearance associated with a lacquered floor.
Another important advantage is its suitability for dark wood species. The formulation is designed to avoid unwanted wood oxidation while preserving the natural appearance and colour of the timber. Despite its very natural finish, ECOWOOD 2K INDUSTRY provides excellent chemical and physical resistance, making it suitable for heavy traffic wooden floors where durability is particularly important.
The two components are mixed at a ratio of 10 parts lacquer to 1 part hardener, with a working pot life of approximately two hours. It can be applied using professional spraying equipment or a curtain coater.

Gloss Levels
Most water based floor lacquers have some levels of gloss or sheen. A glossy floor lacquer would have somewhere between 60 to 80% sheen. A semi gloss floor lacquer would have anywhere between 30-40% sheen. A matt water based floor lacquer would have 10-20% sheen levels. The ultra matt lacquers or also known as natural lacquer can have 5-8% sheen. The incredible Chimiver Ecowood 2K Water Based Floor Lacquer has only 3-4% sheen. Basically as matt as the untreated wood. The product has no added colour and it contains high solid contents. It can be used to treat and protect high traffic hardwood floors and stairs.
100% Polyurethane Based
Chimiver Ecowood 2K is a professional two component water based polyurethane floor lacquer designed to protect wooden floors while maintaining a highly natural appearance. In a water based polyurethane coating, water acts primarily as the carrier for polyurethane resin dispersions. As the coating dries, water evaporates and the resin system forms a tough protective film over the timber.
The main reason for using Ecowood 2K is to combine a natural untreated wood appearance with excellent physical and chemical resistance. Its extremely matt 3 to 4 gloss finish reduces reflections and helps preserve the original character of the wood. This makes it particularly attractive where strong protection is required without creating a visibly glossy lacquered surface.
Before application, the two components are mixed at a 10 to 1 ratio. The mixture has a working pot life of approximately two hours. The timber must be properly prepared, clean and free from contamination before coating.
Polyurethane does not have one single chemical formula because it is a polymer family rather than one individual chemical compound. Polyurethanes are characterised by repeating urethane linkages containing NHCOO groups. In a two component polyurethane system, reactive components crosslink during curing, creating a dense and durable protective coating with considerably greater resistance than the original liquid material.
Compatible With Oil Based Wood Stains And All Primers
The new Chimiver Ecowood 2K Water Based Floor Lacquer can and should be used without a primer but if a primer is required, the product is 100% compatible with any water based or solvent based floor primers from all brands. It can also be used to overcoat and protect stained hardwood floors and generally all kinds of stained real wood surfaces.
Our recommendation would be to apply the product directly on to the unfinished surface in a two coats system with about 2-4 hours break between the coasts. The product is 100% invisible when it dries so do not expect any changes to the wood finish, look or composition. The lacquer will sink inside the wood and it will be protecting the fibre against moisture from above and from below.
How To Use
The wood surface has to be sanded nicely to make sure that no old sealers, protectors or imperfections are left on the surface. Remember, unlike other types of hardwood floor lacquers and varnishes, the new Chimiver Ecowood 2K Water Based Floor Lacquer With No Sheen is designed to maintain the natural look of the wood 100%. Any pre-existing imperfection or issue will be made much more visible by the sealer. The final sanding before lacquering should be done with 100 grit sanding belts or discs.
- The newly sanded surface should be vacuumed thoroughly with a powerful professional vacuum cleaner that is capable of extracting even the finest grain of dust from under the skirtingboards, from the gaps, knots and all hard to get areas.
- Mix up the floor lacquer with the hardener and allow it to bond for about 10 minutes. Mix up enough product to cover the entire surface. Expect to cover around 8-9 sq meters per 1L of floor lacquer.
- Use a small varnishing brush to apply the product around the corners, edges and all other areas where the large varnishing roller cannot fit. Use a large varnishing roller to apply the product on the open spaces. Move along with the fibre of the wood and not against it.
- The first coat should take a few hours to fully dry. The second coat can be done after the first coat has dried in full. Two coats will provide full protection while maintaining the natural aspect of the wood.
Non yellowing and unscratchable
Unlike the other types of water based floor lacquers from Chimiver or other brands, the new Chimiver Ecowood 2K Water Based Floor Lacquer With No Sheen fully penetrates the wood without glazing. The protection happens from inside the fibre of the wood. By being like that, this product is totally unaffected by the UV light, it cannot be scratched or damaged in the same way as other floor lacquers and most of the cleaning products used to deep clean it, does not bother it at all.
