Why use it
The sport floors, unlike other types of hardwood floors, are exposed to a lot of use and abuse. The surface of the floor is exposed to a lot of intense use, drops, speeding, sliding, sweat drops, etc. Only the best of the best floor primers and floor lacquers should be used to seal and protect these floors. The epic Bona SuperSport Primer 5L ticks all the boxes for compatibility with intense use sport floors, flexibility, cost effectiveness, easy application, quick drying times and self leveling qualities. The contractors that have used it once, are likely to use it again and recommend it to other tradesmen.
Where to use it
While the new Bona SuperSport Primer 5L was designed as a sport room wood floor primer, it can be successfully used to prime and protect all types of real wood surfaces. A fine quality waterborne wood floor primer that is mostly used to treat untreated hardwood floors in sport rooms, sport halls, sport arenas, high traffic commercial floors and some residential floors. The product is characterized by its incredible flexibility, incredible coverage area, excellent self leveling qualities, excellent abrasion properties and no reduced risk of side-bonding.
How to use
Detailed surface preparation is essential. The new Bona SuperSport Primer 5L is a penetrating wood primer that can only be applied on new or newly sanded hardwood floors. Any pre-existing sealers or protectors will have to be removed in full before applying the new Bona SuperSport Primer 5L on it. One coat of wood floor primer is more than enough to achieve that rich finish that equalizes the floorboards within the sports hall.
- Sand up the entire room with all grits sanding paper up to 100 grit the final sanding.
- If you are dealing with new floors, do a light sanding with 80 or 100 grit sanding paper.
- Use a quality varnishing brush and a large varnishing roller. When priming a large sports hall it is essential that a team of specialists are applying the product at once. A special Bona Microfiber Applicator can be a better tool when dealing with large floors.
- Allow the primer to fully dry and then do a fine sanding with 180-220 screening discs. Vacuum well and seal the surface with Bona SuperSport Lacquers.
- Do not walk on the surface for 3-4 hours after the final coat.
Recommendations
The new Bona SuperSport Primer 5L is a wood primer not a floor lacquer. It has to be overcoated with at least 2 coats of floor lacquer. Do not walk on the surface while the primer is drying. Do not mix up primers and do not apply the new Bona SuperSport Primer 5L over pre-existing finishes or wood stains. The coverage area is estimated only and can vary dramatically. Store the product away from direct sunlight.
Bona SuperSport Primer 5L is a professional one-component waterborne primer developed specifically for untreated wooden sports floors. It creates a foundation for the application of compatible Bona SuperSport finishes and subsequent line marking, helping contractors achieve a smooth, durable and attractive floor system.
Its excellent adhesion supports secure bonding between the bare timber and the following treatment. The primer also reduces the risk of side-bonding between individual boards, allowing the floor to respond more naturally to movement caused by changes in temperature and humidity. This is especially important on large sports floors, where dimensional movement can place stress on the surface system.
Bona SuperSport Primer produces a medium-rich colouration that enhances the natural warmth and character of the wood without making it excessively dark. With a solid content of approximately 32%, it provides dependable build while remaining easy to spread and apply.
The polyurethane dispersion is manufactured using 70% renewable raw materials, offering a more considered material choice without compromising professional performance. Once dry, the primer has excellent abrasion properties and is easy to sand, helping produce a smooth surface for further coating. The practical 5-litre container is well suited to sports halls, gymnasiums and other professional wooden athletic floors.
Prepare untreated wooden sports flooring for a high-quality finish with Bona SuperSport Primer 5L. This one-component, waterborne polyurethane primer is designed to promote excellent adhesion while creating an optimal base for compatible sports floor treatments and precise line marking.
The formulation offers side-bonding reducing properties. By limiting excessive bonding along the edges of adjoining boards, it helps lower the possibility of irregular gaps developing as the timber expands and contracts. This makes it particularly suitable for large-area wooden floors used in sports halls, schools, leisure centres, gymnasiums and training facilities.
Bona SuperSport Primer gives the timber a medium-rich colouration, bringing out its natural grain and warmth while maintaining a professional appearance. Its 32% solid content contributes to consistent coverage and effective surface preparation. The primer is straightforward to apply and, after drying, offers excellent abrasion properties. It can be sanded easily to remove raised grain and minor imperfections before the next coat is applied.
Made from a polyurethane dispersion containing 70% renewable raw materials, Bona SuperSport Primer combines technical performance with a more responsible formulation. Supplied in a convenient 5-litre pack, it provides flooring professionals with an efficient primer for building a smooth, secure and attractive sports floor coating system.
