A Look At The Faber MA 90

Natural stone is porous. Be it marble, granite, travertine, basalt, or even sandstone, its porosity will make it absorb spills and dirt. Stone surfaces in bathrooms, kitchen countertops and living room floors need to be treated for their protection. After all, you don’t want stains setting into the structure, ruining the beauty of your installation. From food and drink spills, grease splatters, cosmetic products like nail polish that accidentally wind up on the floor, ink blots, all through to cases of engine oil spilling on the garage floor- these all crease a mess. Without adequate protection, the liquids will seep into the material. With oils, there is the additional issue of it being a dirt magnet, trapping dust and other particles from the environment, increasing the rate of dilapidation. This is not the case you want for your installation. It was expensive to install- and with good reason. Natural stone is highly durable and comes with a grandiose look and feel which can’t simply be replicated. They are installed in homes and business premises alike, bringing their elegance to the space and even increasing its real estate value. This is as a result of the huge demand for establishments with natural stone installations. Their strength enables them to withstand the barrage of abuse meted out onto them on a daily bases by heavy foot traffic, be it in the modern day busy homes, or the floors in retail centres, office complexes and entertainment venues. However, it doesn’t mean that the stone is invincible, hence the need for routine care. To protect your installation from, staining turn to the Faber MA 90.

Looks are key, and the Faber MA 90 has been formulated to enhance the beauty and colouration of the surfaces onto which it has been applied. That tone and characteristic veining of the natural stone is made more prominent, and the surface gets a wet look finish. The semi-gloss satin nature of the treatment accentuates the surface, making the interior decor more aesthetically pleasing. In fact, it is not limited to the indoors. Its resistance to UV radiation allows you to bring this beauty to the outdoor surfaces, and the treated areas will not end up yellowing over time. You can even use the Faber MA 90 on the particularly absorbent surfaces, and achieve that semi-polished effect, with the warm colouration of the treatment making the natural grain of the surface pop.

  • Protection from stains

Spills are a threat to the elegance of the surfaces, and you don’t want stains setting into the structure. The Faber MA 90 has got you covered. It comes with water-repellent and oil-repellent attributes. This keeps the spills from seeping into the porous stone, thereby preventing permanent stains from forming. This has the welcome benefit of reducing your workload during the routine cleaning. Since it’s from Faber, a brand that is renowned around the world for the high quality of its products, you can rest assured that you’re getting a value return for your purchase.

  • Suitable for surfaces with medium/medium-high rates of absorption

You get to bring that in-depth wet look to these absorbent surfaces, accentuating their appeal. From granite, limestone, quartzite, travertine and terracotta, to slate, cementina and porphyry installations, the Faber MA 90 will be up to the task. Note that it shouldn’t be used on surfaces that have been polished. This product has been specifically developed for the non-polished installations.

How To Use The Faber MA 90

First thing’s first: Clean the surface. The dirt and grime on it is a threat to the success of the task. Dust, pet dander, grease spots, and oil build-ups getting trapped under the Faber MA 90 treatment will ruin the quality of the results. After cleaning the surface, allow it to dry. Once ready, proceed with these steps:

  1. Use a roller, brush, or lambswool applicator to apply the Faber MA 90 onto the surface. Apply it abundantly, spreading it evenly over the whole surface.

  2. Give the coat 5 to 10 minutes of dwelling time, for it to be absorbed by the material.

  3. Distribute the excess product that is on the surface. Ensure that you achieve a uniform application, continuing with the redistribution until there is a homogenous result. This step may not be necessary if the Faber MA 90 is being applied onto a highly absorbent surface, since the product applied will have already penetrated into the stone.

  4. Let the surface dry- this can take between 1 and 2 hours.

  5. In case you want to buff up the surface, wait for at least 4-6 hours after application. You can polish it with a standard floor polisher, rated at 1.5HP, and setting it to at least 175 rpm. Attach a white or lambswool disc onto the polisher. A wool-cotton attachment will also suffice. Proceed to polish the surface until you obtain the desired effect. For the vertical surfaces, small sections that a standard floor polisher won’t be feasible, you can use an orbital or manual wheel. Here, attach a white disc or pad to it.

Foot traffic can be allowed back onto the floor 4 to 6 hours after the Faber MA 90 has been applied.

Maintaining floors treated with the Faber MA 90

Routine cleaning will be needed, to retain that polished effect, and keep the surface elegant. Here, you can use Faber Neugel, as it is compatible with the MA 90 treatment. Faber 30 and Deterfug can also be used, depending on the level of soiling involved, and the type of surface being attended to. When the time comes to dewax the surface, you can use Faber Dec 21 or the Decera P.

DOs And DON’Ts Of The Faber MA 90
