Stain-Proofing With The Faber MA 90 V

Part of the appeal of natural stones lies in the fact that no two surfaces are alike. This is due to the natural processes leading to their formation, which result in different composition, colouration, grain patterns and even aspects like the veins of the structure. As such, you end up having a unique design which simply cannot be replicated. The popularity of these installations also stems from their durability, which has seen them be put in use for ages, going back to the monuments and historical buildings that were set up by dynasties centuries ago. Today, thanks to advancements in design processes, one can have the design that meets their personal taste at home, and gives their business an image that leaves customers in awe. Protective measures are required to maintain the elegance of the natural stone. Take the issue of stains for instance. Without proper treatment, liquids like water and oil will easily penetrate the stone, and leave behind unsightly stains. These spots will be stark contrasts to the rest of the colouration, and will stick out like a sore thumb. That is not the setting you want for your home or business premises. With this regard, Faber has provided a wide range of solutions to cater to the different situations of surface care. These are the likes of the MA 90 V which comes in to ward off the stains, while at the same time boosting the appeal of the surface onto which it has been applied.

Enhanced surface protection

With the Faber MA 90 V, you get beauty that lasts. For starters, it enhances the colouration of the material, bringing out that natural appeal of the stone structure. From the tone of the granite and limestone installations to the characteristic veining of marble and quartzite, the aesthetic attributes get a boost, which it topped up with a wet look that gives depth, especially when viewed under lighting- be it the natural sun or artificial indoor lights. That warm look and feel enhances the ambience, making homes more comfortable and giving your employees and customers on your business premises a pleasurable environment to undertake their activities in. By enhancing the natural grain, it makes the treated surface serve as an elegant backdrop to the surrounding furnishings, sprucing up the décor. The treated surface does not end up yellowing over time, with the Faber MA 90 V being resistant to the sun's UV rays.

As it leaves a semi-gloss finish, you also want that effect to be retained through the daily usage that the floors, worktops and other surfaces handle. The Faber MA 90 V makes this a reality as a result of features such as water and oil resistance. This prevents spills from getting soaked into the unpolished surface, which has the welcome benefit of reducing your workload during the routine cleaning. Speaking of which, the Faber MA 90 V has been particularly formulated for usage on surfaces that have non-polished finishes, and those with medium-high all through to high rates of absorption. It’s suitable for materials ranging from slate, porphyry and terracotta, to marble, cotto, limestone and granite. At an application rate of 15/20m² per litre, each unit product gets to cover a wide surface area. This, coupled with the affordable price, enables you to enhance the aesthetic appeal of your installation without depleting your finances.

How To Use The Faber MA 90 V

  • Surface preparation

Before treating the surface, first you need to get rid of any dirt that is on it. The soiling, loose debris and other grime will prevent the Faber MA 90 V from properly bonding with the underlying structure, hence a thorough cleaning is imperative. Allow the surface to dry, since the product also should not be applied onto a wet area. Remember to protect those adjacent sections that are not to be treated. In case you’re applying the product on a surface which has recently been primed using a water-repellent product, first allow it to dry before treating the area with the Faber MA 90 V. Grouted surfaces should also be allowed to cure completely.

  • The application process

For this, you can use different equipment. The popular options are rollers, brushes, and also lambswool applicators. Once your equipment is ready, proceed with these steps:

  1. Apply the Faber MA 90 V abundantly onto the surface. Ensure that you set an even layer, covering the entire target section.

  2. Give it 5 to 10 minutes undisturbed for the product to set into the surface.

  3. Distribute the excess product over the area, evening it out with the same tool used in the initial application. The goal is to end up with a uniform treatment. For the highly absorbent surfaces, this step may not be required since the product will have already penetrated into the material.

  4. Give it 1-2 hours to dry.

  • Getting a polished effect

This next stage is to further enhance the aesthetics, and it should be done after at least 4-6 hours of dwelling time. Buff the surface using the dry brushing technique. You can achieve which with a standard floor polisher, which has at least a rating of 1.5HP, and is set to 175 rpm. Attach a white disc or a wool-cotton attachment to the machine. A lambswool disc can also be used. For the vertical surfaces, or in case you're working on a small section, you can polish the surface using an orbital or manual wheel. This should be fitted with a white disc or compact felt.

Tips For Using The Faber MA 90 V

  • Environmental conditions factor into the success of the operations. In cases where there are high humidity levels- like when it’s mist, foggy, or it’s just about to rain, first wait for it to clear up before proceeding with the application.

  • Foot traffic can be allowed back onto the treated area 4 to 6 hours after application.

  • To clean the floor that has been treated with the Faber MA 90 V, it’s recommended that you use the AlgaFloor formulation, also from the same brand. Units like the Faber 30 and Deterfug can come in for the heavy cleaning operations. Dewaxing, on the other hand, is carried out with the Dec 21 or the Decera P.
