Protecting Floors With The Faber SHS Wax
Getting your preferred natural stone installation was no doubt a pricey endeavour. From granite, marble, to limestone and travertine floors, they each come with their wide range of benefits, and add a touch of class to the interior space. The stones themselves are strong and can last for long. However, this can only be attained with proper care and maintenance. The floors come under lots of stains and stresses on a daily basis, there are the items can occasionally get dropped on them, foot traffic, and there are spills from foods, drinks, oils and other liquids. Chemicals with their varying pH levels can react with the surface, affecting its beauty and structural integrity. The longer it is neglected, the more extensive the damage will be, and it can even reach a point where replacement of the tiles will be needed. You don’t want your installation being ruined. Keep it in its elegant state by treating it with the Faber SHS Wax.
Protects and accentuates
The Faber SHS Wax has a wax resin formulation that brings enhanced resistance to foot traffic. It forms a layer of protection on the floor’s surface, shielding it from the footfall in the building. It’s a popular treatment for commercial establishments and modern day busy homes. In fact, the layer of the Faber SHS Wax provides such a high degree of resistance that it can even be used on floors that handle medium vehicle traffic. This means that you can use it in areas like car showrooms, garages and warehouses. The protection enables the underlying structure to last for longer, and allows you to avoid the hefty costs that come with repairing damages caused by everyday wear and tear. The treatment is so durable that it requires specialized agents to remove it when it comes to the dewaxing. Here, products like the tough acting Faber Dec 21 and Decera P are used
Beauty also comes into focus. After all, the hallmark of natural stone installations is the aesthetic appeal that they bring to the interior space. The Faber SHS Wax takes this up a notch through its self-polishing nature, which brings the shine to the surface. This accentuates the colouration and tone of the treated material, enhancing the interior decor. What’s more, the product does not yellow, which is particularly beneficial since you don’t want that elegance that has been obtained being replaced by an unsightly yellow hue on exposure to sunlight.
When it comes to daily cleaning operations, the Faber SHS Wax also has your back. The layer of protection prevents spills from seeping into the underlying stone structure. That way, stains don’t end up setting into the material. Dirt is prevented from adhering to the pores of the stone. This also makes cleaning operations easier. The Faber SHS Wax formulation is versatile, and can be used on a wide array of stones ranging from limestone, granite and marble, concrete, quartzite and sandstone, all through to marble-cement agglomerates, and porcelain stoneware, be it natural or textured. With a 15 to 20 m² per litre application rate, each unit you purchase will enable you to treat a wide surface area. This, added to its affordable price tag, allows you to meet your building’s maintenance needs without putting a strain on your finances.
The process is easy. Start by cleaning the surface, in order to get rid of those dirt particles which would have been trapped under the coat of the Faber SHS Wax. Also allow the surface to dry, since the formulation should not be used on surfaces that are wet. The tools to use vary depending on the particular situation, but the two most common are the lambswool applicator or a roller. Once ready, apply a uniform and abundant coat of the Faber SHS Wax onto the surface. Ensure that you have obtained an even a layer, applied following the same direction. Be careful not to leave behind too much of the wax on a given area. Should you notice any build up, it can be immediately redistributed over the section that you’re working on. In case you have already moved on to a different area and notice a build-up in previous section, then let the layer first dry and cure, before coming back to polish the area and even it out with the rest of the floor.
For those cases where you’re working on a surface that has a high absorbency, or one which is textured, you may be required to add a second coat of the Faber SHS Wax. Here first allow the first one to dry. It’s recommended that you wait for 2 to 3 hours before applying the second coat. Of note is that you should follow a perpendicular direction to the first layer, basically crisscrossing the initial direction used.
As mentioned above, the Faber SHS Wax is self-polishing. This means that even without intervention, it will form a polished effect. However, since aesthetic needs vary from one property owner to the other, there are those who will want to go a step further and increase the level of shine. This can be accomplished using a mechanical floor polisher, onto which a white or lambswool pad has been attached. It is at this point that the build-ups noticed on sections of the surface will be rectified.
You can open the floor to foot traffic 4 to 6 hours after the treatment. The tools that have been used for the process can be cleaned using water.
When the time comes to restore the surface that has been treated with this formulation, you can use the same Faber SHS Wax, but this time diluted in water. Prepare the solution using a 1:5 dilution ratio.
