Keep Away The Stains With The Faber Marble & Granite Protector
The Faber Marble & Granite Protector delivers on its mandate by blocking the penetration of stain-forming agents into the treated surface. The impregnating formulation comes with water-and oil-resistant properties, preventing the absorption of spills into the material. This enables you to clear up any spillages that are on the surface before they wreak havoc on the area. Thereafter, you simply use a damp cloth or mop to wipe away the spills. In areas like kitchen countertops where there is a high prevalence of spills, the Faber Marble & Granite Protector also comes in handy. You get to use this formulation to protecting the surface from staining, without putting the food material prepared on the surfaces at risk. This is because the product has been declared safe for use on food contact surfaces.
Thanks to its water-repellent properties, the Faber Marble & Granite Protector is also used as a pre-grouting treatment. Grouting and the washing processes that follow involve copious amounts of water. When grouting natural stone installations, the threat of water damage in such scenarios increases exponentially. Applying the Faber Marble & Granite Protector to the surface before beginning the grouting process will prevent this from happening.
This formulation also plays a role in preventing dirt accumulation on the surface. It does this by limiting how much dirt gets embedded into the structure. That way, the everyday dirt and grime that accumulates on the surface won’t end up becoming a nuisance by sticking to the stone. You will be in a position to easily clean off the contents – which has the welcome benefit of reducing the amount of products and time used for the routine cleaning. Speaking of which, you can use formulations like the Faber Neutral Cleaner or Floor Cleaner to carry out this routine cleaning. The choice of product will depend on the particular material you intend to work on. Avoid DIY formulations such as vinegar and ammonia-based solutions as they may end up damaging the natural stone structure.
Preserving The Natural Beauty Of Your Surfaces
The treatment does not leave behind a film on the surface, and neither does it affect the colour and tone of the installation. Given that it’s an impregnating agent, it gets into the actual structure of the surface, bonding with it from within. This mode of approach also means that the Faber Marble & Granite Protector does not affect the breathability of the material. In addition, the formulation doesn’t form a yellow hue over time, thus enabling the treated surface to retain its aesthetic charm for longer. In case you’re using this product on materials that are particularly sensitive to colour changes once they absorb a treatment, the Faber Marble & Granite Protector may lightly accentuate the natural colour of the material. For other cases though, the product retains the original appearance of the treated surface.
This formulation is suitable for natural stone installations. These include marble and granite (hence the name of the product), limestone, travertine, marble-cement, marble-resin and quartz-resin agglomerates, all through to sandstone, quartzite and porphyry materials. It features an average 10-15m²/L coverage rate, with the particular rate of application for your situation depending on how absorbent the material being worked on is. You can easily confirm the suitability of the Faber Marble & Granite Protector for your particular material. For this, conduct a small test on an unexposed section of the surface and assess the impact that the formulation has on the material.
This stain-proofing treatment is also beneficial for your building’s routine maintenance budget. For starters, it has been affordably priced, and you can get it in 1L bottles or 5L cans. In addition, by blocking the absorption of stain-causing agents, the resources that go into the day-to-day cleaning are reduced, bringing you more savings in the long run. Moreover, since it limits the ability of the surface to hold dirt – which are some of the primary causes of surface wear, you get to prolong the life of the installation, avoiding costly repairs and replacements.
How To Use The Faber Marble & Granite Protector
As a standard practice, before a stain-proofing treatment is applied onto any installation, the surface needs to be cleaned. Particulate matter, including dirt and coarse debris, as well as any greasy residue on the surface, will interfere with the bonding processes that needs to take place between the treatment and the surface being worked on. Give it a thorough wash, and allow it to dry. As a precautionary measure, also protect those adjacent surfaces that are not to be treated with the solvent-based formulation.
With regards to the equipment to use for the application, tools like a brush or cloth for small surfaces, roller, spray or lambswool applicator for the larger areas will do. The product comes ready to use, and won’t need to be diluted or mixed with any other chemical. Once ready, proceed with these steps:
-
Apply a layer of the Faber Marble & Granite Protector onto the target area. This should be a thick and even layer, covering the entire surface.
-
Give the product 10 minutes, then assess the uniformity of the layer applied. Redistribute the formulation on those sections that have residue or excess build-up. Continue doing this until the treatment dries.
This is a fast-drying formulation. In just 1 hour the treatment will have dried. Foot traffic however will need to wait for 4-6 hours before being permitted back onto the area. You can use white spirit to wash the equipment that has been used.
-
When you’re dealing with very absorbent surfaces, a second coat of product may need to be applied. This can be done after the 1-hour drying period has passed.
-
The product should not be used on overly heated surfaces.
-
A water-repellent primer can be applied before this product to further enhance the effectiveness of the stain-proofing treatment. However, first ensure that the primer has fully dried and cured before applying the Faber Marble & Granite Protector onto the area.
